Malinda is one of Sri Lanka’s most prolific domestic spinners, with more than 1000 first-class wickets at an average below 21. A consistent wicket-taker, he topped the country’s premier club competition several times, most recently in the 2023-24 Major League Tournament.
His domestic dominance earned him four Tests and two ODIs for Sri Lanka between 2017 and 2018, though opportunities were limited by Rangana Herath’s presence. Pushpakumara also represented Sri Lanka A against several strong opposition sides and began his career with the Under-19 team after attending Lumbini College, Colombo.
In 2024, Pushpakumara also made a significant impact in UK club cricket. He claimed 84 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 2.59 and a bowling average of 9.79.
